Overlap Slotted Container (OSC)

Define the overlap on the structural drawing alongside internal dimensions. The amount should suit the opening proportions and sealing process. Confirm a physical blank before artwork approval so the extra flap coverage and the final closure edge are understood by both teams.

Long openings can leave a large gap between the inner flaps of a conventional slotted box. Overlapping outer flaps offer another closure arrangement. Check the filled sample for flap separation and product contact rather than using box length alone to select the style.

Mark which flap closes last and which areas become hidden before positioning text or a repeated logo. Ask packers to close the proof in the intended sequence. A message placed on the inner overlap may disappear even though it looks prominent on the flat dieline.

The closure must be specified for the chosen material, equipment and packed product. Review the overlap location and any risk of fasteners contacting contents. Compare completed samples and assess the final sealed package; do not switch closure methods without checking the changed construction.
